Naturalization Records were first recorded in Choctaw Nation, Indian Territory, about 1889. In Pre-Statehood cases, the initial record was referred to as "Oath of Allegiance". while after 1907 the document was entitled "Declaration of Intention". Then there was a two + year waiting period until they could file the "Petition of Naturalization".

This project started in 2007 and finished its first printing 2016 - During the project a multitude of technologies were used to scan the images, During the reviews, some of the images were re-scanned with the technology of that day and multiple images of the same item are included in this document because different technologies will show different parts of the document better - Many of the documents are done in very light green pencil, in some cases these documents may have been scanned 5 times at different settings to bring out the information, all these scans have been included - In addition the previous to 2007, the library had scanned several of the books, these scans have been included in PDF form, and in some cases are better scans than the newer scans. If after all this you still want a better copy, we recommend that you go to the Holding archives and have the document re-scanned from the ordinal- These are depending on the document: Oklahoma History Society (OHS), and The National Archives in DC - If you wish to share these new scans with PCGHS, we will include them in the next edition of this document.
Note: Every written document in the Books have been scanned, and are included in this publication - in some cases the petitions included affidavits and Questions not included in previous publications, We found these documents to be as interesting as the petitions.
